J.W. Sexton High School Reviews

Principal is horrible, teachers are great. The halls are full of kids during class and I can never find security to take care of it.

Sexton isn't as bad as what the community thinks. I've been in a private school for 1st-8th grade and last year my mom put me in Sexton. Many people criticized my parents for that decision and they thought the transition from middle to high school would change me in a bad way. But clearly I've proved them all wrong. I passed last year with a 4.0 and I was voted Miss Freshman. Sexton may not be the richest and I may not agree with all the rules and regulations but it's still a good school!

Great academics and unique opportunities for students to be challenged!

Sexton has an academic atmosphere that encourages each individual student. An instructor will answer questions and verify a special need if the student asks for help. The key thing is to come each day prepared to accept new tasks and instruction. Working together creates a bond with teacher and student. A grandparent needs to stay informed and follow the progress of his/her student. I would be grateful for any learning materials or progress reports alloted to me. Sexton is on the cutting edge of educational progress. Parent or grandparent we give Sexton High School a great vote of confidence and thanks.

J.W. Sexton is a great school; the teachers are involved with their students learning and they love their jobs. The curriculum is challenging and Sexton offers more AP classes than any other Lansing School District, including Holt, Waverly, Okemos, etc. With all this you would expect that this school is great for any student but Sexton is over-shadowed by intolerant, unmannered students, that gives Sexton a bad name.

I have a daughter who just graduated Sexton, and I thought that the school was wonderful. The school spirt is amazing, with short pep ralleys being held in the foyer. It gets the kids involved and interested in the extracurricular activities. The academic programs were also wonderful, and they were always open to parents getting involved. For people who are sceptical of the public schools, you would be very impressed.
